Insidious The Last Key - Movie Review. The fourth film in the franchise and the prequel to Insidious 1 and 1 while being a sequel to Insidious 3. It brings back Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier and also Specs and Tucker in the search for paranormal activities.

In this fourth installment we find Elise facing her most fearsome and personal haunting yet in her own family home that has been haunting her since childhood.

Compare to the other films in the Insidious series and other films in general, this movie is clearly a let down.

Insidious The Last Key - Movie Review

Insidious Chapter 3 revealed how Elise met her comic relief sidekicks, Specs and Tucker. The only problem is the haunted house they are hired to exercise is the same house where Elise grew up as an abused child.

And to confront the demon who lives there, she has to confront her own tortured past. One of the issues of this movies are ghost hunters, they are always stepping into the lives of other people, and they aren’t always fighting the monsters. Plus the monsters do not attack them.

This movie tries to fix this issue but they actually went too far and then got lost. Most of the other characters in the film, including the new owner of the house, Ted Garza (Kirk Acevedo) were not developed at all. If they are connected to Elise at some point, we have to care about them.

Leigh Whannell’s screenplay does manage to throw in some great jump scare and the director knows how to play with to make audience keep watching the movie.

The real pleasure is to see Lin Shaye carries this movie on her own. For a 74 year-old woman, it surprised us in so many ways.
